Off to a Great Start

Well, I'm off to a great start. I rode my first training ride this afternoon. I purposely kept the milage low, 11 miles, to prevent injury. I've hurt myself in the past trying to go too far too soon. It was a great afternoon. I rode the NCR trail. It had just rained before I started out so it was a bit wet. I had those mud spots all over me. Pretty cool, I looked like a serious mountain biker.

It was just like I thought it would be. The first half my body was not happy with me. It was saying things like, "What's up with this? It's 5 o'clock, we should be home flopped in front of the TV with a tall ice water watching The Barefoot Contessa." After I stopped, had my water and started back, I quickly got into the zone.

I definitely think the Seagull Metric Century is doable. I just have to keep at the training. The next ride is scheduled for this Saturday, rain or shine. My goal is to ride between 20 and 30 miles. If it's raining, I'll go the B & A trail, it's paved. Great start!

Hello Seagull Century!

I guess it's official! I'm now off my ass. I just signed up today for the Seagull Century on October 10th out of Salisbury. I am now committed to riding a 64 mile bike ride. Needless to say, I'm out of shape and I need to train. I looked at my calendar today and marked off 15 days to train. Some of these days are rain or shine. If it rains, I'll drive down to the Baltimore/Annalopis trail which is paved. I don't want to get mud all over my bike. I do hope to complete the metric century. It would mean a lot to me. I've done this ride off and on since 1992. It's a great motivator to get me off my ass. I'll keep you posted.
