Not Happy

I'm beginning to wonder why I named this blog Motivation. Yesterday, I had an incredible day until later in the day and then I started to get sick, and my kids kept me up all night. After all that exercise Saturday, I sort of expected to feel better a little longer. Today I'm back to raspy throat, and all of my aches and pains. And it's fairly warm outside so it would be a good exercise day but the only thing I feel like doing is going back to bed. Not happy! We'll see what the rest of the day brings.

Carpe Diem

It's a beautiful day here in Northern Baltimore County. It should get up in the high 50's. So I seized the moment and went for a 4 mile walk/jog. I only jogged a little more than a mile. I could feel my right knee talking to me so I didn't want to push it. At 270 and out of practice, I didn't want to risk injury. I did, however, want to take advantage of this beautiful day. I got a boost from watching Oprah yesterday. She's a bit beefier than she was a few months ago. She said she blew it over the holidays by eating bread. I've had so much bread and sweets over the past few months that it's a wonder I don't weigh over 300 lbs.

Back on the program. I had my first real test this morning. After my 4 mile adventure I walked into the house to find the kids fixing pancakes. Boz asked me to fix him some and I did, without eating any myself. Then Homer and JJ came back with doughnuts and I resisted them as well. JJ and I are going to Moe's later and I'll get a salad. I have done this before and I can do it again. Off with the pounds!

Finding the Motivation

I guess I named this blog motivation for a reason. I always have lots of good intentions and plans, and likewise, I'm always easily sidetracked. I started running a couple of weeks ago while the weather was warm. Once it got cold windy and rainy, it was easy not to do it. Today it's just cold. It's beautiful, but cold. What I need to do is haul by big fat ass out there and do it. OK, I've just shamed myself into doing it.

I need to do a little catch up first. The coolist thing that's happened this week is I have my son back. He's been having some real problems in school so we made alternative arrangements for his schooling and it's like the kid has been reborn. He's his old self again. I didn't realize how bad the situation was for him. Things are going really well at church. Last night's choir rehearsal was really great.

My weight is really a problem. I worked out down at the harbor on Wednesday, and it feels like I'm as big as a house. I was able to do push ups and sit ups so when combined with jogging, I should start to get back into a little better shape.

I'm getting set up to record Quando Quando Quando. I'm following Jai Jai's advice and concentrating on latins. I got great reviews on Synthzone for Sway. I'm sticking with the old guard latin standards and kicking the shit out of them. It should make for a great CD. Well, the open road awaits.

Goals

I need to set up some goals for the year

Physical: By the beginning of 2007 I'd like to weigh no more that 220 lbs. I'm starting out at 270, so this is around a pound a week.

I will ride the bike in at least 2 metric centuries. The full century is just too painful on the knees at this point in life.

I will walk/job daily, weather permitting.

I will do push ups, ect. daily.

I will do some moderate lifting at the health club.

Stormy Night

It was a stormy night last night. Thunder, lightning, rain, and even a little snow. It was enough to cause schools to go in 2 hours late. I didn't run today due to the snow and ice on the ground, but I will walk or jog later today either outdoors or indoors. I will try and wrap up the piano stuff today. I also need to get back into marketing my CD. I found it on Tower Records last night which was really cool. I haven't sold anymore copies lately though. Well, on with the day.

It's mid afternoon and the piano stuff is all taken care of. Tonight is a Hyatt night so I'm going to pack up an outfit and head down to Pierside and work out at the health club before going to work. One of the reasons we bought the condo was to take advantage of things like this. It's definitely too windy and cold for me outside today. I've been reading up on the CS literature and I'm finding it very welcoming. I was into it before, several years ago. It's like meeting up with an old friend.

Well I did get down to the condo and workout. I spent a half hour combined on the treadmill and the recumbant bike. I also did some lifting. After that I went over to the club in the tower and took a couple of steams and a hot tub. It felt great. Back at the condo, I did some push ups and some sit ups. I am keeping an active lifestyle. No matter what the weather, I'll find something I can do to exercise.

Great tips

I have a most unique job. I interview self-made, very wealthy individualswho all came from modest backgrounds, about the principles of prosperity, success and wealth accumulation. I then pass the information onto you, inwriting, on CD or DVD, so that you can choose, if you wish, to apply thosesame principles. It’s a fascinating and enlightening process, one thatnevër ceases to surprise and amaze me.Hëre are the seven most common keys that came up repeatedly in interviewsconducted in 2005, along with a prosperity tip for each one that may helpyou apply them:1. The Power of Imprints.Perhaps most surprising was the repeated importance of the parental orfamiliar imprint. Not some, but all of the individuals interviewed had atleast one strong influence from a family member that made a powerfulimprint on their ability to manifest prosperity later in life--rangingfrom an understanding of monëy to the value of discipline toopen-mindedness toward new ideas and more. Obviously, this poses a bit ofa challenge for those of us (myself included) who did not have such apositive imprint.

Prosperity Tip #1--Get the imprint nöw by immersing yourself in prosperityconsciousness. Listen to tapes and CDs, sign up for financial newsletterson the internet, attend seminars. It will take time, yet the ability tochange our mindset is available to all of us. If you have impressionablechildren, you might consider including them in the process.

2. The Necessity of Passion. The message “do what you love” came through loud and clear--though notnecessarily for the most obvious, life-enjoyment reasons. Each of theinterviewees described the inevitable challenges that come with any greataccomplishment and the need to overcome them. In the face of the mostdaunting circumstances, only a true passion for the undertaking will giveus the resiliency when knocked down and a sufficient desire to endure longenough to reach our target goals.Prosperity Tip #2--Dig within yourself and find what truly gets yourjuices flowing. What causes your internal metabolism to speed up at thevery thought of it? What brings a natural smile and an innate energy?Discover it, uncover it and go after it.

3. Undying Tenacity.Napoleon Hill in his bestseller "Think and Grow Rich" stated: “Themajority of people are ready to throw their aims and purposes overboard, and give up at the first sign of opposition or misfortune. A few carry ondespite all opposition, until they attain their goal. These few are theFords, Carnegies, Rockefellers and Edisons. There may be no heroicconnotation to the word ‘persistence,’ but the quality is to the characterof man what carbon is to steel.” Enough said. Everyone interviewed echoedthe sentiment. As one gentleman stated, “I’ll take staying power overbrain power every day of the week.”Prosperity Tip #3--Complete all tasks large and small and build the“Completion Muscle.” Use the small tasks as the training ground forfinishing the largër ones. Over time, tenacity and perseverance willbecome second nature.

4. Mentorship and Guidance. In addition to the familiar imprint, the highly successful seek continuouscounsel from those who have walked the walk before them. They networkcontinuously and expand their circles of influence. Early on, the majorityhad not one but several mentors that helped shape their careers andbusinesses.Prosperity Tip #4--We choose our mentors. Even those we do not have directaccess to can often be found at the library, in the bookstore or on theInternet. And, don’t be afraid to ask. Most wealthy people feel a strongsense of obligatïon to pay back. You’ll be surprised how many of them willgladly offer their support.

5. Asking for the Sale.Perhaps most unexpected for me, in discussing what was the single greatestimpediment to success and wealth accumulation, the answer was consistentand strongly stated: people don’t ask for the sale. It doesn’t matter howgood the presentation or the product is; in the end, we must ask for thesale. If we market a good product or service at a fair price, then we oweit to ourselves and to all consumers to put that product into themarketplace. No one will beat down our door to find anything. We mustlearn to ask for the sale.Prosperity Tip #5--We sell ourselves every day. We sell our spouses onputting up with us, our children on tolerating us, our friends andcolleagues on liking us every day. Instead of talking, practice the art ofsilence. Make a small request and shut up--not another word. Let the otherperson respond. You’ll be amazëd at how effective this is to get a “yes.”Then apply the same lesson to your enterprise.

6. The Lessons of History. Most rich people collect things. When asked why, they responded thatcollectibles contain inherent history. Behind every piece is a memory or aperson that teaches a life lesson. Even though financial transactionstravel largely through the ethers, collectibles convey tangible, historical messages, and we all know that history repeats itself.Prosperity Tip #6--Start a collection and educate yourself about each itemyou collect. Coins, paperweights, teacups, stamps, sports memorabilia, antiques, anything--all carry with them a piece of the human experience. It doesn’t cost a lot of monëy and you can choose a collection you willtruly enjoy.

7. Philanthropy and Reward.“Give and ye shall receive” and other often-quoted sayings apply. There isa definite karmic connection between inflow and outflow. Even anonymousgifts have a way of circling fortune back to the giver. As one gentlemanwho has increased his yearly donations by significant amounts every yearfor the past decade shared with me: “I don’t know how it works. What I doknow is that every year I give more and every year I am exponentially moreprosperous--and that’s all I need to know.”Prosperity Tip #7--Give. It’s that simple. Find a cause to support andsupport it.I realize that any one of these Seven Keys merits a full exploration, sohëre’s a suggestion. Pick a couple to use this year and embrace them. Thenpick a couple more. Before you know it, you’ll be the person Iinterview!!!

Getting with the program

This is my first time at a blog. I tried online diaries, but this looks a lot cooler. I'm going to try and keep myself on track on several levels. First, on my professional level. I am a self employed musical entertainer who books his own jobs. It's a three part process. 1. You have to book the job. 2. You have to play the job. 3. You usually have to collect the money. It's fun, I love it, and it's going really well.

The second thing I'd like to keep track of is my physical shape, or lack of. I'm 6'3" and currently weigh in at around 270. I'm told I carry it well which is probably why it's that high. I'm 55 years old and it would probably be a good idea to get into shape again. I've been there at various times in my life. I cycled a lot during the 90's and I'd like to get back into that. I like to jog in the morning when it's not too cold. My main problem is I need to stay motivated.

And the third thing I want to explore here is my spiritual life. I'll go into more detail later, but last night I sort of rediscovered Christian Science. I really do like their belief system. It is really a belief system. You either believe what the bible says or you don't. There's not much room for a middle ground. And I think most denominations are somewhere in the middle. Well, so much for now
